In India, Nissan has displayed the X-Trail, Qashqai, and Juke SUVs. This Japanese automaker’s Indian subsidiary has announced that it is researching the viability of two of its most popular global models for the dynamic Indian market. Nissan has also confirmed that X-Trail and Qashqai road testing will begin this month in India.
Nissan’s top engineers are putting these global-spec utility vehicles through their paces on the roads that surround the company’s manufacturing plant in Chennai, Tamil Nadu. Aside from these SUVs, the carmaker also displayed the Juke. Nissan intends to assess its suitability for the rapidly changing Indian consumer base.
“Focusing specifically on their adaptability to Indian roads and differing terrains, the tests will assess each vehicle’s ability to meet customers’ needs,” the company said in a press statement. Nissan says that over the coming weeks it will be identifying the feasibility of models from its global portfolio for the future potential vehicle line-up in the Indian market.
After testing is completed, the Nissan X-Trail will be the first model to go on sale, followed by other models. According to the company, its comprehensive review includes ensuring future localised production for the long-term viability of domestic and export manufacturing. Nissan is also investigating the long-term viability of electrification. However, no specific timeline has been provided yet.
