In a momentous move, the Odisha Electricity Regulatory Commission (OERC) announced today that there will be no electricity pricing increases in Odisha for the fiscal year 2025–26.
In a press conference this afternoon, OERC Secretary and Director Dr. Priyabrata Patnaik said that the OERC has decided to waive the charges for smart meters (Rs 60) with a connected load of up to 2 kilowatts. This would assist more than 80 lakh consumers in the state.
Patnaik further stated that the OERC will continue to offer a four percent (4%) discount for e-bills in order to encourage digital transactions.
Because there will be no increase in power tariffs in Odisha in 2025-26, household users who use up to 50 units would pay 2.90 paisa per unit, while those who use 51 to 200 units will pay 4.70 paisa. Similarly, Rs 5.70 per unit would be paid for use between 201 and 400 units, and Rs 6.10 per unit for consumption greater than 400 units.
