People woke up to unpleasant weather on Thursday morning as the humidity level reached 73% in Bhubaneswar and 67% in Cuttack at 8:30 am, with no break from the ongoing heatwave that was affecting the whole state of Odisha.
The state-wide heatwave is projected to last until Saturday, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), and starting on Sunday, the temperature is predicted to slightly decrease owing to Kalbaisakhi. On Thursday, the IMD issued heatwave alerts for 19 state districts, including Khurda and Cuttack.
According to the meteorological office’s forecasting, the next two days will see a significant deterioration in the weather, with numerous locations seeing temperature increases of 2 to 3 degrees Celsius. Today’s highest temperature in Bhubaneswar is expected to reach about 42°C.
It is quite probable that isolated areas within the districts of Mayurbhanj, Nuapada, Anugul, and Nayagarh would experience severe heatwave conditions.
At one or more locations in Keonjhar, Bhadrak, Balasore, Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, Khurda, Dhenkanal, Jajpur, Kandhamal, Koraput, Malkangiri, and Boudh, heatwave conditions are extremely likely to prevail.
The districts of Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, and Gajapati are predicted to have hot and humid weather conditions in several areas, the IMD reported on Thursday.
Odisha typically gets an 11-day heatwave between April and June, but this year’s heatwave season might last anywhere from 17 to 25 days, according to the IMD. The weather bureau has issued a warning, stating that during this time, the daytime high in some areas of Odisha could reach 45°C. The state government has previously announced that all schools will be closed for three days, from April 18 to 20, due to the extreme temperature.
Nonetheless, due to the impact of thundershowers and strong westerly winds, people might anticipate some relief starting on Sunday.
