The Anti Discrimination Student Movement’s coordinators announced on Tuesday that Nobel laureate Muhammad Yunus will serve as chief adviser to Bangladesh’s interim government.
In a social media video, the Movement’s coordinators stated that they had communicated with Yunus, who had granted his approval for the same, according to The Daily Star.
A video was posted on the Facebook profile of Asif Mahmud, another key coordinator of the student movement, stating, “We have decided that internationally renowned Nobel laureate Dr Muhammad Yunus will be appointed as the chief advisor in the interim government, and we have also spoken with Dr Muhammad Yunus. He has agreed to take on this significant responsibility in response to the call of the students and public to safeguard Bangladesh.”
Key coordinator Nahid Islam stated that in the midst of the country’s crises, we ask the president to take steps to form an interim administration led by Yunus.
Nahid stated that no other government except the one offered by the students would be approved.
“As we have said, no military government, or one backed by the military, or a government of fascists, will be accepted,” Nahid said.
Meanwhile, Yusuf hopes that young people will lead the country in the correct path.
Amid the country’s violence, instability, and looting, President Mohammed Shahabuddin stated, “I ask the armed forces to take strict action to protect the lives and properties of the people.”
President Shahabuddin chose on Monday to appoint an interim government to manage the country after Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina resigned amid the upheaval that has killed over 400 lives since July.
The President also authorized the release of students arrested during the anti-quota protests.
The President also declared a unanimous decision to release BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia.
Hasina, who arrived in India on Monday, is expected to remain in the nation until the UK gives her refuge.
