The Union Home Ministry on Sunday opened the window for filing nominations/recommendations for the Padma accolades-2027, one of the country’s highest civilian accolades, which will be awarded on Republic Day in 2027, according to an official.
Nominations for the Padma Awards close on July 31, 2026, according to an official release.
Nominations and recommendations for Padma Awards will only be accepted online through the Rashtriya Puraskar Portal (https://awards.gov.in).
Padma Vibhushan, Padma Bhushan, and Padma Shri are civilian honors established in 1954 and announced annually on Republic Day.
The Awards aim to recognize ‘work of distinction’ and are granted for distinguished and extraordinary achievements/service in all fields/disciplines, including art, literature, and education, sports, medicine, social work, science and engineering, public affairs, civil service, trade, and industry.
These awards are open to all individuals, regardless of race, occupation, position, or gender. Padma Awards are not open to government employees, including those employed by PSUs, with the exception of doctors and scientists.
According to the official announcement, the government is determined to transforming the Padma Awards into “People’s Padma”.
As a result, all individuals, including themselves, are encouraged to submit nominations/recommendations, according to the statement.
“Concerted efforts may be made to identify talented persons whose excellence and achievements really deserve to be recognised from amongst women, weaker sections of the society, SCs & STs, divyang persons and who are doing selfless service to the society,” it said.
The nominations/recommendations should include all important facts indicated in the format provided on the portal, emphasizing the person’s outstanding and extraordinary achievements/service in her/his chosen field/discipline.
