The Phone 2a, the most affordable smartphone from emerging tech company Nothing, aims to redefine what a low-cost Android handset should be. The Phone 2a, which starts at Rs 23,999, has a powerful internal engine while maintaining Nothing’s recognizable transparent look.
The MediaTek Dimensity 7200 “Pro” processor, which was co-engineered with Nothing, is at the heart of it. Nothing says that this 4nm processor is 16% more efficient and 13% faster than the original Nothing Phone 1. With a whopping 12GB of RAM, this phone should be able to tackle the most of your tasks.
The 6.7-inch flexible AMOLED display reaches up to 1,300 nits peak brightness for easy outdoor visibility. This display is surrounded by super-slim symmetric bezels all around, which Nothing says is the slimmest on any of their handsets, coming in at just 2.1mm thick. Under the hood is Nothing’s biggest battery yet at 5,000mAh, which the brand says should allow up to 2 days of use per charge.
Rather than utilizing multiple cameras, Nothing increased the number of sensors in the camera area. Both the 50MP ultra-wide and the 50MP primary camera with OIS use premium sensors with sizable 1/1.56′′ and 1/2.76′′ sizes, respectively. Frequently excellent shots should be possible thanks to clever software techniques like Motion Capture, Night Mode, and the TrueLens Engine’s Ultra XDR.
Resurrected with a new trio light layout on the back is the iconic Glyph Interface. It can visually indicate when a call is coming in, display the battery level, and even match the beat of your music. Nothing OS 2.5, a heavily modified version of Android 14, pairs well with the lights.
With the ability to create personalized backgrounds directly on the phone, generative AI has also made its debut on Nothing Phones. Although this is just the beginning, some other brands have outperformed with more practical AI features.
Though it is incredibly powerful, the Phone 2a hasn’t forgotten its ecologically minded beginnings. The company claims to have recycled plastic, copper, tin, aluminum, and aluminum while boasting the lowest carbon impact to date.
With the affordable Phone 2a, Nothing is making a bold play to capture the budget segment through its unique combination of innovative design and software smarts. The Phone 2 apparently didn’t sell as well due to its high pricing so this new handset could help the brand recover any lost ground.
The Nothing Phone 2a starts at Rs 23,999 (8GB+128GB), but as part of an introductory offer, the handset can be picked up for just Rs 19,999 (inclusive of bank discounts) on March 12. Units will likely be limited though so you’ll have to be fast.
Together with the new phone, Nothing has also released two new wearables: the CMF Neckband Pro, which costs Rs. 1,999, and the CMF Buds, which cost Rs. 2,499 each.
