On Monday, the Odisha Language, Literature, and Culture Department issued a letter to all District Magistrates and SPs directing them to prohibit obscene, ambiguous dialogues and dance performances on Jatra, music, and dance programs.
In a letter, the department agreed to allow dance and song performances during festivals, but only if they were free of obscenity, vulgarity, and political overtones.
The letter instructing the police to allow the events stated that “no obscene dance or vulgar dialogues should be performed by any of the participants.”
The letter directed the local authorities to incorporate all of the conditions prescribed by the department when granting permission, and it made it clear that the police are free to take action in accordance with the law if there is any violation of the conditions.
