The Bhubaneswar Police have taken great preparations for the peaceful celebration of Ganesh Puja on September 7 in Bhubaneswar and Cuttack.
This year, the police have outlawed the usage of DJs during Ganesh Puja. Instead, the focus is on performing traditional musical instruments. Bhubaneswar DCP Prateek Singh stated that comprehensive discussions were undertaken with puja committees, and their concerns were resolved.
“Matters related to the procession, which will be held on September 8, 11 and 15, have been discussed. We have been directed to use traditional musical instruments instead of DJs during the procession. The committees will need to ensure that city traffic is not affected due to processions,” said Singh.
The idol immersion ceremony in Cuttack is scheduled for September 15, 22 and 29. The Puja committees have been asked to seek prior permission from the local police station seven days before, he said.
In addition, the puja committees have examined issues such as enough parking, fire safety precautions, CCTV cameras, and volunteer deployment.
On Saturday, Police Commissioner Sanjeev Panda stated that anyone who makes distorted idols of Ganesha will face severe consequences. He promised to take action against any group or institution that defaces statues.
He cautioned that forceful collecting of public donations would result in severe consequences.
The police will deploy a sufficient number of security personnel in the capital city to control traffic during the puja.
However, DJ proprietors were opposed to the measure, claiming that the prohibition order would have a negative impact on their livelihood during the next festival season.
