Bhabani Shankar Bhoi, MLA of the state’s ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), was unanimously chosen as Deputy Speaker of Odisha Assembly.
Bhoi was elected as Deputy Speaker unopposed because he was the lone legislator to file nomination papers at the Assembly Secretary’s office yesterday.
Speaker Surama Padhy today named Talsara MLA as Deputy Speaker of the House. She hoped he would administer the House efficiently and impartially during her absence.
Meanwhile, chairman Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, Deputy Chief Ministers KV Singh Deo and Pravati Parida, Leader of the Opposition Naveen Patnaik, and Congress Legislature Party chairman Rama Chandra Kadam congratulated Bhoi on his election as Deputy Speaker of the House.
It is worth noting that Bhoi has been representing the Talsara assembly constituency in Sundergarh district since 2019. In 2024, he defeated Binaya Kumar Toppo of the BJD by a margin of 68928 votes.
