Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik launched the AMLAN- Anaemia Mukta Lakhya Abhiyan in the state. It is a multifaceted strategy for reducing anaemia in targeted populations.
Several departments will carry out the program, including Health & Family Welfare, School & Mass Education, Women & Child Development, Mission Shakti, and the ST & SC Development Department.
The mission, which the CM described as a giant leap, is part of our own program to rid the state of anaemia, particularly among women and children.
The Chief Minister announced the launch of the program on a virtual platform, stating that the program will benefit approximately 1.37 million people, including pregnant women, lactating mothers, women of reproductive age, adolescents, and children.
He went on to say that the main interventions are iron and folic acid supplementation, haemoglobin testing, treatment of anaemic cases, capacity building of service providers, and social behavior change communication.
He stated that the program will be implemented in 55 thousand government and government-aided schools, as well as 74 thousand Anganwadi Centres throughout the state. He stated that the State Government has prioritized the development of the health sector in our state, citing the principle of “Every life is precious.”
Odisha has improved in many health indicators, including immunization, infant mortality rate, maternal mortality ratio, infant and young child feeding practices, and undernutrition, thanks to a strong focus on public health programs.
However, anaemia continues to be a major public health issue in the country, he added. The CM urged the concerned departments and on-the-ground service providers to collaborate for the successful implementation of AMLAN in order to achieve Anaemia Mukta Odisha.
The CM also published the AMLAN Operational Guidelines. Chief Secretary Suresh Chandra Mohapatra stated that this program will undoubtedly succeed if all departments work together. Previously, we did it in Covid-19 management, he added.
VK Pandian, Secretary to the Chief Minister (5T), moderated the discussion. The welcome address was given by Health & Family Welfare Secretary Smt Shalini Pandit, and the vote of thanks was given by Director Family Welfare. Principal Secretaries and Secretaries of various departments, as well as officials from all districts, participated online.
