Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik flagged off a drone survey on Thursday to grant land rights to slum dwellers in five Municipal Corporations across the state.
The Chief Minister flagged off the drone survey to give land rights to slum dwellers in five Municipal Corporations while attending a special program at the KIIT Convention Hall here. The Tata Steel Foundation will provide technical assistance.
In the presence of the Chief Minister, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between Tata Steel Foundation and Jaga Mission for this program.
On this occasion, the Chief Minister inaugurated 707 Biju Adarsh Colonies in 33 urban areas of the State and declared Hinjilikatu and Digapahandi to be completely slum-free cities as of today.
The Chief Minister expressed his delight that Biju Adarsh Colonies are being established, which will provide basic facilities to slum areas as well as land rights.
By December 2023, all slums in the state will be converted into model colonies, and the entire state will be slum-free, according to the Chief Minister.
According to the Chief Minister, the Jaga Mission program has gained international acclaim. The Government of India has also recognized this innovative concept. People come first in this mission.
Under the Jaga Mission, land rights have been granted to 1 lakh 70 thousand slum families in 105 cities across the state. He announced that land rights will be given to two and a half lakh slum families of the state by December 2023.
Having a place and a home of one’s own improves one’s sense of self. He stated that this campaign will bring about change in the lives of the city’s poor.
The Chief Minister described the Jaga Mission as a spiritual journey that began in 2017 and has so far brought much success and satisfaction.
The Chief Minister stated that Slum Development Associations play an important role in the development of slums and that these associations have been recognized and given the opportunity to be partners in the development and governance system.
The Biju Adarsh Colonies will be managed by the associations. The Chief Minister stated that a provision has been made for these associations to receive 25% of the municipal budget for the development of infrastructure in the slums.
According to the Chief Minister, the State government has begun a pilot program to identify the causes of slums and prevent them so that cities remain slum-free.
Finally, the Chief Minister stated that the country’s poor people have an equal right to the benefits of development and growth. The Chief Minister stated that his government will not be silent until the poor receive social and economic justice.
According to the Chief Minister, the slum development program will be critical in providing equal rights and justice to the urban poor. The spiritual journey will continue to play a role in bringing lasting happiness into the lives of the state’s 17 lakh slum dwellers.
Usha Devi, Minister of Housing and Urban Development, attended the program and praised the Chief Minister’s vision for the development of the state’s cities, particularly the slums. According to her, such an initiative is unique in the country.
G. Mathi Vathanan, Principal Secretary of the Housing and Urban Development Department, delivered the welcome speech, and Jaga Mission Director Sangramjit Nayak proposed the vote of thanks. The program featured Ministers, MPs, MLAs, Mayors, and Municipal Council Chairpersons from various cities.
