With the threat of severe cyclonic storm Dana hanging over Odisha, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi convened another review conference to assess the situation and devise appropriate response strategies.
On Thursday, several ministers and senior administrative officials attended a meeting in Bhubaneswar’s Lok Seva Bhawan. They included Revenue and Disaster Management Minister Suresh Pujari, Chief Secretary Manoj Ahuja, and DGP YB Khurania.
Officials briefed the Chief Minister on the precautionary measures taken in several susceptible districts to safeguard people’s safety. Senior officials from the India Meteorological Department (IMD) also updated the gathering on the cyclonic storm’s latest movement.
Chief Minister Majhi has urged officials to take all necessary precautions to ensure ‘zero casualty’ during the storm and to prioritize the rapid restoration of power and communication networks following Dana’s landfall.
The state government has evacuated over ten lakh people from risky areas to relief and transit shelters set up in several districts in preparation for Cyclone Dana.
Earlier on Wednesday, Majhi conducted a thorough inspection of the situation while visiting the Special Relief Commissioner’s (SRC) office. He then told reporters that the people need not fear because the administration is fully prepared to deal with any scenario and is taking all necessary precautions to ensure their safety.
Majhi stated that the cyclone is expected to cause significant damage in the districts of Kendrapada, Bhadrak, Balasore, Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, and Puri.
