Congratulating the Indian Men’s Hockey India on their historic Gold Medal at the 19th Asian Games in Hangzhou, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik today announced a cash award of Rs 5 lakh each for the victorious team’s players and support staff, in recognition of their stellar performance in winning the coveted Gold and securing a berth in the Paris Olympics 2024. In the Final, they defeated defending champions Japan 5-1.
Following the medal celebration, the Chief Minister chatted with the Indian team via video call. The crew was overjoyed when the Chief Minister personally congratulated them.
CM Naveen Patnaik said, “My heartiest congratulations to the victorious Indian Men’s Hockey Team. Their unwavering dedication and hard work have once again proven that Hockey is truly India’s game, embodying our nation’s unyielding spirit. In Odisha, where Hockey holds a special place in our hearts, this historic day will forever be etched in our memories as a momentous triumph for our beloved sport and our nation. I wish the Indian Team the very best as they prepare for the Paris Olympic Games next year.”
V K Pandian, Secretary to the CM (5T), complimented the Indian team, saying they played like winners throughout the tournament and deserved the gold medal.

India’s victory breaks a nine-year drought for the country to win the coveted quadrennial event. India won gold in 2014 after defeating arch-rival Pakistan.
Odisha has been the Indian hockey teams’ sponsor since 2018 and has supported them in big tournaments such as two World Cups.
