Chief Ministers from all states will be invited to the FIH Men’s Hockey World Cup 2023, which will be held in Odisha, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik announced today.
Patnaik made the announcement while chairing an all-party meeting for the successful hosting of the FIH Men’s Hockey World Cup 2023 at the Lok Seba Bhawan Convention Centre here.
The Chief Minister sought the cooperation of all political parties to ensure the state’s successful hosting and smooth operation of the Men’s Hockey World Cup 2023.
Patnaik thanked the Central government, particularly Prime Minister Narendra Modi, for their assistance in preparing for the Hockey World Cup in his speech.
He stated that organizing the Hockey World Cup involves not only the honor of Odisha, but the honor of the entire country, and thus he asked everyone to work together.
Leaders from various political parties who took part in the discussion thanked the government for its efforts to develop sports and stated that hosting the World Cup for the second time in a row has raised Odisha’s reputation around the world.
Joining the meeting, Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan praised the state government for the arrangement and stated that everyone should work together to produce 100 Olympians by the centennial celebration of Odisha’s formation as a separate province in 2036.
Apart from that, Pradhan proposed including the once-in-a-lifetime event of hosting the Hockey World Cup twice in a row in school curricula, involving citizens in the cleanliness of Bhubaneswar and Rourkela, and branding the Rourkela-Bhubaneswar railway line for hockey. He stated that the central government will provide all types of assistance.
During the discussion, Congress Legislature Party leader Narasingh Mishra proposed building a hockey stadium in each district of the state.
Among those present were Congress vice-president Santosh Singh Saluja, Biju Janata Dal (BJD) vice-president Debiprasad Mishra, BJD organizing secretary Pranab Prakash Das, BJP State president Samir Mohanty, CPI general secretary Ramkrushna Panda, MLAs Taraprasad Bahinipati and Laxman Munda, CPI’s Ali Kishore Patnaik and Abhay Sahu, Samajbadi Party’s Rabi Behera, AAP’s state convenor Nishikant Mohapatra, RJD’s State president Hemant Kumar took part in the discussion and shared their well thought out suggestions.
The meeting was organized by Sports Minister Tushar Kanti Behera.
R Vineel Krishna, Sports Secretary, presented details on the preparations and various programs for the 17-day sports extravaganza, which will take place from the 13th to the 29th of next month.
The vote of thanks was given by Chief Secretary Suresh Chandra Mahapatra, who was present at the meeting.
