On Thursday, Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik led a high-powered delegation to Nippon Steel Corporation’s (NSC) Kimitsu Steel Works. The team was briefed on the plant after being given a tour of the facility.
The delegation’s visit to NSC’s Kimitsu Steel Works allowed them to learn about the most recent technologies and processes used by NSC in the production of steel.
The Kimitsu plant was built on reclaimed seabed land and employs environmentally friendly green technologies. The sea used to be deeper than ten meters, and the plant has a large campus with green tree belts.
Kimitsu Steel Works manufactures a wide range of specialized steel products that are used in a variety of downstream industries, including automobiles.
Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Minister praised the state-of-the-art facility and NSC’s commitment to excellence in steel production. He discussed the use of similar green technologies for new plants in the Odisha districts of Kendrapara and Jagatsinghpur. The proposed plants will also focus on specialized steel products, which will benefit Odisha’s downstream industries.
Patnaik emphasized the enormous potential for collaboration between NSC and Odisha, citing the state’s rich mineral resources and steel sector potential. He also assured NSC officials of the Government of Odisha’s unwavering support for Arcelor Mittal-Nippon Steel (AM/NS), which is developing integrated steel plants in Odisha at Kendrapada and Jagatsinghpur. In comparison to the current trend of exporting iron ore fines, the projects will use large volumes of iron ore fines, which will aid in the value addition of the mineral within Odisha.
The Chief Minister expressed his gratitude for NSC’s warm hospitality to the delegation and expressed his hope that the visit would help to strengthen the relationship between NSC and Odisha.
