The sizzling heatwave that has been sweeping across Odisha for the past two days is unlikely to end, as the regional center of the India Meteorological Department (IMD) in Bhubaneswar has predicted that day temperatures (maximum temperature) will rise by 2°C to 4°C in several parts of the state over the next two days.
At the same time, humidity levels will be higher than in the previous days, making life more difficult, according to the weather forecast. Until May 31, most parts of the state will likely have hot and humid weather. With the strong summer currents streaming in from the west, humidity levels in Paradip and Gopalpur have already reached 79%.
The weather office has predicted heatwave conditions at one or two places in Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Bolangir, and Nuapada districts on Wednesday and Thursday.
However, there is a possibility of intermittent rains in some parts of the state. The weather office has said that some places in Odisha may even experience lightning and thunderstorms on Wednesday.
Meanwhile, the southwest monsoon is expected to reach the Indian mainland between May 31 and June 1, primarily in Kerala. The IMD anticipated that the country will enjoy an above-normal monsoon this year, with 106% rainfall.
