Taking a hint from the ruling Biju Janata Dal (BJD), Prime Minister Narendra Modi vowed on Monday to offer electricity fully free for up to 300 units if the BJP forms the next administration in Odisha.
Addressing a large election rally at the Angul Stadium here, Prime Minister Modi said, “We promise to supply free electricity to the people if the BJP is voted to power in the Odisha Assembly.” He said that under the PM Surya Ghar Yojana, the BJP government will provide a Rs 75,000 subsidy to the consumers to install rooftop solar panels and would not be required to pay electricity bills for up to 300 units.
The Prime Minister also asserted that the BJD government in Odisha is on its way out. Though the state is rich in mineral resources, its people are distressed, he said.
“Who is responsible for the sorry state of affairs in Odisha? It is the BJD government under the control of some corrupt people. A few corrupt persons have grabbed the Chief Minister’s office and residence. Even the common BJD workers have now become crorepatis,” the Prime Minister added.
Slamming the ruling BJD, Modi claimed that the state government has prevented people from availing benefits of the mineral resources. “In 2014, Modi has prepared a new mineral exploration policy, under which Odisha is getting high royalty,” he said.
