The Odisha Electricity Regulatory Commission (OERC) has announced that the electricity tariff for the fiscal year 2023-24 will remain unchanged.
Domestic electricity will cost Rs 3 for the first 50 units, Rs 4.80 for 50 to 200 units, 5.80 paise for 200 to 400 units, and 6.20 paise for more than 400 units, according to the current power rate chart.
Farmers have also been offered a Rs 1.60 per unit discount for running cold storage. Farmers had to pay Rs 4.60 per unit previously. They will now be required to pay Rs 3 per unit of power consumed.
Previously, the average consumer received a 4% discount if they paid their bills digitally. They would now be given a 3% discount. Simultaneously, the OERC will provide a 25% discount for each unit of power used for railway development.
Here’s some good news for rural consumers. They can now get a 10 paise per unit discount on top of the existing rebates. Furthermore, the DPS has been waived, and domestic users will not be penalized. The power tariff for ordinary consumers has not been raised for the second year in a row.
Priyabrata Patnaik, secretary of the OERC, stated that the commission held tariff hearings from February 13 to March 4 with various electricity distribution companies.
