On Wednesday morning, over 12 lakh cusec of floodwater was still flowing through Mundali barrage over the river Mahanadi as Hirakud Dam continued to release excess water through 40 sluice gates.
The reservoir level of Hirakud Dam was 626.56 feet at 6 a.m. today. The inflow was 5.97 million cusecs and the outflow was 6.79 million cusecs. The peak flow through the Mundali barrage was 12.01 lakh cusecs, while the peak flow through the Khairmal barrage was 9.57 lakh cusecs.
Pradeep Kumar Jena, Special Relief Commissioner (SRC), had asked authorities and the public to remain vigilant until Thursday afternoon, when the rivers will empty their peak flows into the sea.
