The Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) has notified all Collectors and civic body authorities about the severe rain expected by the India Meteorological Department.
In a letter to all Collectors, the SRC offered specific instructions for districts under yellow notice. The SRC advised these district administrations to have administrative machinery ready for any scenario.
Low-lying areas in cities may experience flooding, and roads and drains may get swamped. The letter stated that ULBs must keep drains and stormwater channels clear, and that adequate dewatering pumps may be used as needed.
The SRC asked the Collectors to notify him immediately of regions experiencing heavy to very heavy rainfall.
Collectors have been required to submit an instant report on any damage caused by severe rainfall for the government’s information.
According to the IMD, a cyclonic circulation exists over Jharkhand, as well as another across Bangladesh and the surrounding areas.
Several regions of Odisha are currently experiencing rainfall, which is expected to continue until August 4, 2024. Several districts have been issued a yellow warning for severe to extremely heavy rains.
