To reduce the number of fatalities caused by road traffic accidents, and in accordance with the observations of the Supreme Court Committee on Road Safety, the Government of India and Odisha’s Health & Family Welfare department have strengthened the state’s Trauma Care Facilities.

To begin, with the support of the Government of India, a few Trauma Care Facilities (TCFs) were strengthened during the 11th and 12th Finance Year Plans. SCB MCH Cuttack, MKCG MCH Brahmapur, VIMSAR Burla, DHS Khurda, Bhadrak, Balasore, and RGH Rourkela are examples of TCF.

Following that, 33 TCFs are notified, of which three are Level I, four are Level II, and the remaining 26 are Level III.

In order to strengthen further and provide cashless treatment within the first 48 hours of trauma, the Free Treatment for Trauma Fund scheme was launched in 2019.
As of today, 11 private level I trauma centers have been accredited. Schemes such as “New Casualty and Trauma Care” and “Free Treatment for Trauma Fund” have been created to assist these TCFs.

7 more private hospitals with level I trauma care facilities have been approved to strengthen the system and reduce fatalities from road traffic accidents. A standard operating procedure (SOP) has been developed. The Memorandum of Understanding for the new facilities will be signed soon. As State Nodal Officer, Additional DMET Odisha oversees the scheme.

The Trauma Facilities where free treatment can be available under the scheme are Ashwini Trauma Centre, Cuttack, AMRI Hospitals, Bhubaneswar, KIMS, Bhubaneswar, Hi-Tech Medical college & Hospital, Bhubaneswar, Kalinga Hospital, Bhubaneswar, Utkal Institute of Medical Science, Bhubaneswar, Medicover Hospital, Vishakhapatnam, Rama Krishna Care Hospital, Raipur, JP Hospital, Rourkela, IMS & SUM Hospital, Bhubaneswar, SUM Ultimate, Bhubaneswar, Sunshine Hospital, Bhubaneswar, Care Hospital, Bhubaneswar, Blue Wheel Hospital, Bhubaneswar, Padmini Care, DRIEMS, Tangi, Cuttack, Sashi Bhusan Memorial Hospital, Cuttack, Sun Hospital, Cuttack, Trisha Hospital, Cuttack.

According to the H&FW department, because all hospitals have Level I trauma care facilities, this will be of tremendous assistance to trauma victims.
