The School and Mass Education Department said today that all government and private schools in Odisha will reopen on June 21 following summer vacations.
Durga Prasad Mohapatra, Additional Secretary to Government, told the concerned officials in a letter that the State government, after careful consideration, has decided to reopen the institutions under the School & Mass Education Department on June 21.
It should be remembered that the summer break for both elementary and secondary schools began on May 5 and was scheduled to last through June 18. The schools were scheduled to reopen on June 19. The state administration, however, extended the summer vocation through June 20, and schools will now reopen on June 21.
The decision to postpone school reopening was made in reaction to rising temperatures across the state. Most regions have temperatures of 40 degrees Celsius or higher.
Meanwhile, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasted no significant change in maximum temperature for the next four days and a minor fall thereafter in various districts across Odisha. It is expected to be 4-7 degrees Celsius above normal in a few spots around the state over the next four days, resulting in hot and uncomfortable weather over the next 4-5 days.
People have been warned to take precautions when stepping outside between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m.
