To encourage greater farmer involvement, the Odisha government has extended the registration date for the kharif paddy procurement. Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi presided over a review meeting on Wednesday where the decision was made.
Over 11.5 lakh farmers have signed up for the process thus far. Originally scheduled to finish on August 20, the registration period started on July 19 this year, four days later than it did on July 15 last year. Given the increased turnout than in recent years, the new deadline is intended to accommodate more farmers.
The state has streamlined the registration process and allowed farmers to register by self-declaration in order to streamline the process.
At a news conference held at his official residence, Krushna Chandra Patra, Minister of Food Supplies and Consumer Welfare, made the announcement. MLAs Irashish Acharya of Bhattli, Sanat Kumar Gadtia of Bijepur, Nihar Ranjan Mahananda of Attabira, and Ashwini Sarangi of Bargarh attended the ceremony.
