Amid public inconvenience and operational issues, the Odisha government has extended the deadline for acquiring Pollution Under Control Certificates (PUCC) till March 31, 2026.
Commerce and Transport Minister Bibhuti Bhusan Jena announced the extension, stating that it will provide ample time for motorists to comply with pollution control regulations.
The move follows reports of long queues at emission testing centers, limited PUCC facilities in districts, and concerns over penalties. “The decision prioritises public convenience, giving vehicle owners sufficient time to obtain PUCCs without hardship,” Jena said.
The extension streamlines the procedure, expands testing capabilities, and raises awareness. The transportation agency will increase monitoring and ensure more efficient enforcement.
The PUCC is required under the Motor Vehicles Act to reduce air pollution. Authorities would implement regulations in a progressive, non-coercive manner till the deadline, offering relief to lakhs of car owners.
