Deputy Chief Minister Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo informed the Assembly on Wednesday that the Odisha government had installed rooftop solar power systems on 56,793 buildings across the state as part of the Pradhan Mantri Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana.
In response to a written query from BJD MLA from Nayagarh Arun Sahoo, Singh Deo stated that the state has received 2,01,443 applications under the scheme so far. Of them, 46,793 beneficiaries have had their rooftop solar installations finished.
The Deputy Chief Minister, who also holds the energy ministry, revealed that 35,966 beneficiaries had already received subsidies under the plan.
In addition, the Odisha Renewable Energy Development Agency built rooftop solar systems on 28 government office buildings in Bhubaneswar, totaling 1,850 kilowatts.
Singh Deo explained that the central government provides a subsidy of ₹78,000 for rooftop solar installations up to 3 kilowatts, while the state government pays an extra ₹60,000.
The Odisha government has allocated ₹1,800 crore to implement the project for three years, from 2024-25 to 2026-27.
The effort aims to accelerate the adoption of renewable energy in the state while lowering household electricity costs and reliance on traditional power sources.
