The Odisha government has taken steps to boost Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) and restore its former significance, including making its services mandatory across government offices.
In accordance with Central Government directions, the Electronics and Information Technology Department has given orders to all departments mandating the usage of BSNL’s internet, broadband, landline, and leased line services in government institutions whenever technically viable.
The Cooperation Department has already acted on the order, sending letters to all District Registrars of Cooperative Societies (DRCS) and Assistant Registrars of Cooperative Societies (ARCS) throughout the state. These officials have been ordered to assess existing arrangements and swiftly implement BSNL services while maintaining ongoing operations.
Furthermore, DRCS and ARCS have been directed to guarantee that all subordinate offices under their authority transition to BSNL services and submit compliance reports to the government by September 30.
Officials said the move is part of a larger effort to strengthen the state-owned telecom provider and expand its service reach throughout Odisha.
