The Odisha government has relaxed the deadline for paying arrears on electricity bills for irrigation consumers.
According to an official press release, Barchana MLA Amar Nayak, Bhubaneswar Ekamra MLA Babu Singh, and Bijay Dal Behera met with Deputy Chief Minister K V Singh Deo on Wednesday in his Vidhan Sabha chamber and proposed extending the time limit for paying arrear electricity bills of lift irrigation consumers during the current Kharif season in the interest of farmers.
Singh Deo communicated with the Director of the Agriculture Department and power distribution firms (Discoms) about this.
All lift irrigation customers are now urged to pay their existing electricity bills on a monthly basis. Discoms have agreed to facilitate payment of overdue electricity bills through instalments. Lift Irrigation consumers can pay their arrear electricity between August 2024 and March 2025 in a maximum of eight instalments.
Deputy Chief Minister Singh Deo stated that the primary goal of this measure is to ensure that electricity supply is uninterrupted while also offering consumers with financial flexibility.
For further information, customers could call Discom’s toll-free number 1912 or visit its customer service center.
