The Odisha government has taken substantial steps to speed refunds for small investors harmed by the state’s chit fund frauds. Following the Chief Minister’s instructions, the process has been simplified and decentralized to the district level, making it speedier and more accessible.
According to a statement released by the Chief Minister’s Office, the state government has repaid Rs 47.07 crore to 1,26,137 small depositors across the state during the last year. This is a huge achievement when contrasted to the previous government’s payment of Rs 119 crore to 2,79,109 investors during a 10-year period.
The Chief Minister has asked officials to guarantee that an additional 5 lakh depositors receive financial compensation within the next three to four months. The government has already confiscated immovable properties totaling 1,472.428 decimals from 35 unlawful chit fund organizations in Odisha, and properties worth 56.549 decimals have been auctioned.
The state government has issued ad-interim orders for the attachment of moveable and immovable assets of 66 bogus firms in the state. The BJP government promised to refund money trapped in chit fund frauds within 18 months of taking office, and it appears to be working towards that goal.
The chit fund scandal affected lakhs of depositors in Odisha, who were duped into investing in ponzi schemes with false promises of large returns. The government’s efforts to repay the money and bring the offenders to justice are being closely monitored by the people of Odisha.
