The Odisha government will give land to those who lose it as a result of natural catastrophes like floods that change river flows, according to Revenue & Disaster Management Minister Suresh Pujari. According to the minister, all district collectors will soon be asked to submit reports in order to identify the impacted families.
Speaking to the media, Pujari emphasized that since 1982, the problem has continued in places like Niali. Rivers in Niali and Baramba have altered their course due to frequent floods, engulfing farmlands and displacing numerous people.
“The government has decided that those who lose their land will be allotted land,” he said, adding that a final decision will be taken once the district collectors submit their reports.
The minister also directed officials to immediately resolve pending land settlement cases, some of which have been lingering for generations.
“It is often seen that the son is fighting a case that was started by his father. All such disputes must be resolved by October,” Pujari instructed.
He added that in order to expedite the resolution of grievances, the agency is looking into measures to expand the number of revenue courts.
