The plan to purchase more than 70 ambulances in addition to the current “108” fleet has been authorized by the Odisha government. Thirty would be ALS ambulances and forty would be BLS ambulances.
Secretary of Health and Family Welfare Department Shalini Pandit instructed all medical college and hospital superintendents, Chief District Medical Officers (CDMOs), and Public Health Officers in a letter to hire ambulance care assistants, drivers, and EMTs by the end of November 2023.
Under the relevant head of account, funds were also allocated for gasoline and ambulance crew payments. Pandit gave the crew members instructions to maintain full preparation and the proper orientation for operating the ambulances when they were assigned to superintendents of medical institutions and district authorities.
In addition to the driver, each ambulance would contain three support personnel. Three shifts would be employed by them.
These extra ambulances would be used for special event work, jail work, and support for BSKY patients who are referred to PVT hospitals.
