The Odisha government is contemplating to provide milk to the school students in the mid-day meal. The government plans to provide 200 ml milk supplemented with vitamins A and D tablets to the students in the mid-day meal, said Fisheries and Animal Resources Minister Gokulananda Mallik.
The government has started a pilot project in this regard and is already providing 200 ml of milk to 1184 students in 29 schools in Rairangpur under the Gift Milk scheme from Monday. Under this scheme, it is being ensured that children have vitamins in their nutrition. “President Droupadi Murmu is keen that we implement this scheme properly,” the minister told the media.
According to the minister, the National Livestock Fund Gokul Yojana would boost the state’s milk supply. Through the Gokul Yojana, plans have been made to donate 3,000 cows to the poor.
“An estimated Rs 38 crore will be spent on this project. A provision of 3000 cows has been made for the development of women, tribals and Harijans in the state. Under the Chief Minister’s Kamdhenu Yojana, a provision has been made to give two cows to people at a 70 per cent discount,” Mallik said.
