The Odisha Health and Family Welfare Department is concerned about the increasing number of H3N2 infections in the state.
With this in mind, Odisha Health Director Dr Niranjan Mishra issued an official letter on Monday to all Chief District Medical Officers (CDMOs) and the director of Capital Hospital in Bhubaneswar.
According to the letter, Covid cases have returned due to an increase in the number of viral infection cases. The letter mandates Covid testing for people experiencing cold and cough symptoms.
According to the Health Director, the state Health Department is stepping up surveillance to combat the rise in infectious diseases such as H3N2. At the same time, the letter directs the appropriate authorities to stock sufficient medical oxygen cylinders and make arrangements for ICU beds. “There is no specific medicine or treatment for influenza,” wrote the Health Director in the letter.
Dr. Niranjan Mishra went on to say that people who have a fever, cold, or cough should not worry because they will pass and recover. He did, however, warn that if anyone has the symptoms, they should seek isolation, wear masks, and wash their hands frequently.
The Director also emphasized that self-medication is always discouraged, even if the symptoms do not go away. It is critical to seek the advice of a a physician and get admitted to a hospital if advised.
