The severe heat-wave condition is likely to prevail over the parts of the State for next four days due to dry wind in the atmosphere.

Umashankar Dash, scientist at the IMD in Bhubaneswar, said at a press meet today that the maximum day temperature in some regions of the state is expected to rise by 2 degrees Celsius. During these four days, temperatures in most parts of the state might reach 45 degrees Celsius. Despite the possibility of westerlies in some areas, the current conditions will last until May 2.

Dash said that the Kalabaisakhi rain may not have an impact on midday temperatures.

On Friday, some parts in south Odisha experienced Kalabaisakhi rain. Nabarangpur recorded the highest 9.1 mm rainfall on Friday afternoon under the influence of the westerlies.

Dash informed that the heat wave to severe heat wave warning has been issued for several districts for next 24 hours. There is no possibility of a major change in the weather system in the next four days.

People are advised to take adequate precautionary measures to avoid heat. They should remain indoors during day hours, he added.

The heat wave will continue today, with numerous locations reaching 34 degrees Celsius by 8:30 a.m. Talcher was the hottest at 36.8, followed by Baripada, which had 36 degrees Celsius at 8.30 a.m. Keonjhar, Rourkela, and Bolangir reported 34.8 degrees Celsius, while Bhawanipatna, Balasore, and Boudh recorded 34 degrees Celsius each.
