On Monday, the regional center of the India Meteorological Department (IMD) in Odisha issued an orange notice for the heatwave in eight districts and a yellow alert in 15 districts, providing no respite from the strong heatwave prevailing throughout the state.
Conditions are predicted to be intolerable, with humidity levels of 70% or more in numerous parts of the state. According to the IMD, hot conditions will certainly last until May 2.
The meteorological service has warned that the heatwave conditions that have been reigning in the state for the past two weeks are likely to worsen on Monday and Tuesday, with temperatures progressively dropping. However, daytime temperatures will stay over 40°C in several places.
A red alert has been issued in eight districts: Angul, Dhenkanal, Jajpur, Boudh, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Cuttack, and Khurda.
Similarly, an orange heatwave alert has been issued for 13 locations, including Nabarangpur, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Ganjam, Gajapati, Puri, Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapada, Bhadrak, Balasore, Rayagada, Malkangiri, and Koraput.
The IMD has advised people to avoid going outside between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m., unless absolutely necessary. Pregnant women, heart patients, young children, and the elderly should be especially cautious.
