The Hockey World Cup trophy was greeted with applause in Odisha’s capital today after returning from a countrywide tour.
The trophy arrived at the Biju Patnaik International Airport (BPIA), where it was received and welcomed by Sports Minister Tusharkanti Behera, Hockey India President Dilip Tirkey, Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) Mayor Sulochana Das, and other dignitaries.
A traditional Odissi dance welcomed the trophy. The procession from the airport to the Lingaraj Temple in Bhubaneswar was met with rousing applause from the locals.
People from all walks of life gathered on the roadside to cheer for the trophy, which was later transported to the Nexus Esplanade mall in a decorated vehicle.
The atmosphere at the mall for the trophy reception was electrifying, with a large number of hockey fans in attendance.
The trophy will also be delivered to KIIT and SOA university today, as planned.
The trophy tour will take place in various districts of Odisha from December 26 to January 12.

The Hockey World Cup will be held from the 13th to the 29th of January at Bhubaneswar’s Kalinga Stadium and Rourkela’s Birsa Munda International Hockey Stadium.
