On the auspicious occasion of the 78th Independence Day today (Thursday ,15th August), Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi hoisted the national flag at the state-level Independence Day celebrations on Mahatma Gandhi Marg in Bhubaneswar.

CM Mohan Majhi began his address with the words ‘Jai Jagannath’ and stated that he does not believe in showing people grandiose dreams. Majhi stated that he is devoted to fulfilling pledges made to the state. The chief minister stated that his government has set a goal of reaching a $500 billion GDP by 2036 and a 1.5 trillion dollar economy by 2047.

Addressing the people of the state, Majhi said, “We are committed to serving the people of Odisha.” “Odia Asmita will reach the zenith, he said, adding, “As promised, we have opened all the four gates of Puri Srimandir. We will also roll out Subhadra Scheme from September 17. Steps will be taken to fill up 1.5 lakh vacant posts.”

During the State-level celebration, CM Majhi remembered the supreme sacrifices made by Odia greats Pandit Gopabandhu Das, Madhusudan Das, Nabakrushna Choudhury, Gapabandhu Choudhury, and Shaheed Laxman Nayak, Veer Surendra Sai, Chakra Bisoi, Rama Devi, Malati Choudhury, Harekrushna Mahtab, Biju Pattnaik, and Parbati Giri.

He also recalled the ‘Paika Rebellion’ and paid tribute to Buxi Jagabandhu, Jai Rajguru, and other Odisha freedom fighters. He also paid tribute to all the courageous troops who gave their lives while fighting for their country.

He went on to say that India will become a developed nation by 2047 and the BJP government will work for the prosperity of the nation.”

“The country’s economy has grown rapidly under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and soon we will become a 5 trillion economy,” he said.

“We will very soon become the third-largest economy. The entire globe now looks at India as ‘Vishwa Guru’. Our state Odisha is also on the path of progress that was once divided during British rule. We will write new history with ‘Odia Asmita’ and ‘Swabhiman’ and touch the peak of development,” Majhi said.

To attain this goal, the state would experience significant industrial development, with the semiconductor sector playing a key part, according to Majhi, who added that the next two decades will be a golden period in Odisha’s history.

“We have also taken up a programme to develop 500 tribal villages under the ‘Ideal Tribal Village’ scheme in the next five years,” Majhi said the audience.

“I’m ‘khanti Odia’, and I don’t believe in making false promises; instead, I vow to keep all of the commitments I’ve made. In the first 60 days of my administration, I have already fulfilled my commitment to open the Srimandir gates and Ratna Bhandar,” he continued.

He also stated that the state government has chosen to build a new multipurpose stadium costing Rs 1,000 crores. It will have an indoor velodrome, mountain biking, swimming pool, football field, archery arena, badminton court, and fitness park where players and the general public can train.

Majhi also stated that the state government will pay pensions, free health care, and free bus passes to people imprisoned under the MISA Act in 1975. He stated that the state administration is creating two vision documents: one for 2036, when Odisha turns 100 years old, and another for 2047, when India celebrates its 100th anniversary of independence.

This year, 59 contingents took part in the state parade. The procession featured Odisha Police, CRPF, 120th Battalion, CISF, Traffic, BSF, and Fire Brigade, as well as school and college students. For the first time, the Chhattisgarh Armed Police and the Indo-Tibetan Police Force marched in the parade together.

While noting that Odisha has extended its sponsorship of the Indian hockey team until 2036, Majhi stated that the state has chosen to start the ‘Khel Ratna Khoja Abhiyan’ to promote talented athletes from the state.

Before concluding his speech, the Chief Minister paid tribute to the Father of the Nation, Mahatma Gandhi, Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, Veer Savarkar, Shahid Bhagat Singh, Chandrasekhar Azad, BR Ambedkar, Rajendra Prasad, and other freedom fighters who made supreme sacrifices for the country.
