“Bikashita Gaon Bikashita Odisha,” a comprehensive plan announced by the Odisha government, aims to promote equitable growth and close important gaps in rural development.
The initiative’s main goal is to carry out sustainable development initiatives, such as building rural road infrastructure, enhancing microtourism destinations, improving sports and educational facilities, and creating municipal assets and amenities.
Under this plan, building roadways between and within villages will be a primary goal. In order to provide communities with long-lasting assets, the program also plans to implement need-based community initiatives. Communities will be made more aware of the need to monitor and maintain the projects in order to guarantee the quality and upkeep of these resources.
For every fiscal year, Gram Sabhas will create an annual action plan, a five-year perspective plan, and a list of need-based projects. The Gram Panchayat will suggest these ideas to the Block, and a Technical Committee at the Block level will then review them. The approving authority will be the collector of the relevant district.
Depending on a government decision, the “Bikashita Gaon Bikashita Odisha” initiative may be extended beyond its initial five-year term. With a budgetary allocation of Rs 1,000 crore made in the 2024–25 budget estimate, the project has an outlay of Rs 5,000 crore.
