The State Transport Authority (STA) mandates the installation of a Vehicle Location Tracking Device (VLTD) and a Panic Button in all vehicles, except for two-wheelers, rickshaws, and three-wheelers.
The STA has issued a notification mandating the installation of these devices beginning October 1.
“The notification stated that the fitment of Vehicle Location Tracking Device and Panic buttons for the vehicles as specified under Rule 125H; sub-rule 5 of rule 90 and sub-rule 1 of rule 129 of CMVR, 1989 has been made mandatory vide Commerce & Transport (Transport) Department Notification No. TRN-LCMISC-0001-201/81541T dated 17.07.2023, in pursuance of directions issued by Ministry of Road Transport & Highways,”
“The objective of this project is to track and monitor the vehicles plying on the roads and to ensure the passenger safety, especially the women and child passengers.”
Passenger buses, educational institution buses, luxury cabs, maxi cabs, motor cabs, omni buses, private service vehicles, goods carriage vehicles operating under a National Permit, vehicles carrying hazardous and explosive materials, and ambulances require a Vehicle Location Tracking Device and Panic buttons.
Here is the deadline for VLTD application:
Vehicles registered on or after October 1, 2023, must have AIS 140 VLTO Devices and Panic Buttons installed at the time of registration.
Owners of the above-mentioned vehicles with registrations on or before September 30, 2023, must ensure the installation of AIS 140 VLTD Devices and Panic Buttons by December 31, 2023.
The technique for installing a VLTD device is as follows:
Vehicle owners are free to select any VLTD device from the list of VLTD manufacturers certified by the Odisha government.
Visit the Transport Department website at http://odishatransport.gov.in/ and https:llvltd.odishatransport.gov.in/ to find a list of approved vendors and the local Retro Fitment Centre (RFC) in their district.
