The Odisha Mining Corporation (OMC) has announced the establishment of five model schools and a skill academy in its operating area. OMC agreed to establish five ‘Mining Adarsha Vidyalayas’ with Odisha Adarsha Vidyalaya Sangathan. It also signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Department of Technical Education and Training to establish the Skill Academy at ITI, Koira.
According to officials, the corporation will spend Rs 208 crore to establish the Adarsha Vidyalayas in OMC mining areas and will invest Rs 30 crore annually to run these institutions.
Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik stated that the OMC has pioneered many developmental initiatives, guiding positive changes in improving people’s quality of life.
“Its efforts in supporting the state in its fight against the COVID-19 pandemic, are highly commendable. Be it sports, health, education, or be it periphery development, the OMC has always put its focused efforts for excellence,” he said.
Patnaik stated that OMC produced over 30 million tonnes of ore in the fiscal year 2021-22, with a revenue of Rs 17,000 crore.
Patnaik also declared three iron ore mines operational on Monday, at Bansapani, Unchabali, and Khndabandha. He also introduced two IT modules: the Compliance Management System and the Litigation Management System.
