The Odisha State Election Commission has issued a set of notifications establishing the schedule for by-elections to fill vacant rural local body seats, such as Zilla Parishad Members, Panchayat Samiti Members, Sarpanchs and Ward Members.
By-elections will be held to fill vacancies in rural local body positions such as Zilla Parishad Members, Panchayat Samiti Members, Sarpanchs, and Ward Members caused by deaths, resignations, disqualifications, or de-reservation of seats due to a lack of qualified applicants. By-elections for 43 Sarpanch and 272 Ward Members are set for June 23, with vote counting and results announced on June 24. The Odisha State Election Commission and the Chief Electoral Officer’s office have declared that the nomination process will continue from May 26 to May 31, excepting government holidays.
According to the notification, by-elections for all vacant rural local body positions will be held on June 23 from 7:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. The Model Code of Conduct will be implemented in the appropriate constituencies from May 20 to June 24, 2025. The results will be submitted to the State Election Commission on June 25, 2025, and the elected members’ names will be published in the official gazette on June 26, 2025.
