The heat wave and severe heat wave existing across Odisha appear to be worsening by the day, making life in the state miserable. Jharsuguda, for example, registered 37.4°C as early as 8.30 a.m. on Sunday, while Sambalpur came close with 36.4°C.
In at least ten locations across the state, the day temperature (highest temperature) was above 30°C. Worse, the regional office of the India Meteorological Department (IMD) here has forecast extreme heat wave conditions for the next two days before the monsoon arrives in Odisha.
A severe heat wave is expected to hit Sambalpur, Jharsuguda, Sundargarh, Bargarh, Sonepur, Boudh, Deogarh, Keonjhar, Cuttack, Nayagarh, Khordha, and Balangir today, while a yellow heat wave warning has been issued for Dhenkanal, Mayurbhanj, Kandhamal, Kalahandi, and Nuapada.
People have been advised to take essential precautions to avoid the hot weather and to avoid leaving their houses between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. unless absolutely necessary. They have also been advised to drink plenty of drinks to stay hydrated.

- Jharsuguda: 37.4°C
- Sambalpur: 36.4°C
- Hirakud: 35.6°C
- Chandbali: 33.8°C
- Bhubaneswar: 33.2°C
- Puri: 32.6°C
- Balasore: 32.2°C
- Gopalpur: 32°C
- Keonjhar: 32°C
- Paradip: 31.8°C
