Odisha’s tableau was prominently displayed during the national parade on Kartavya Path in New Delhi on Monday to commemorate the 77th Republic Day celebrations.
According to an official statement, the tableau was displayed under the subject ‘Samruddhi Ka Mantra, Aatmanirbhar Bharat’, emphasizing Odisha’s essential role in establishing an Aatmanirbhar Bharat through indigenous production and sustainable development.
“The tableau depicted Odisha’s holistic development journey, seamlessly blending agricultural prosperity and rich cultural heritage with modern industry, innovation, skill development and advanced technology. It showcased the state’s effective use of natural resources, human capital and technological capabilities, underscoring its growing role in India’s social and economic progress. The narrative illustrated a continuous transformation from Koraput coffee symbolising agricultural excellence to silicon semiconductors representing Odisha’s emergence in high-tech manufacturing,” informed the state government.
The front element of the tableau was created to resemble the lower piece of Lord Jagannath’s chariot, representing Odisha’s spiritual and cultural base. Rotating copies on the upper area depicted women’s empowerment, with a traditional Pattachitra-style female figure clutching emblems of folk culture and wisdom, as well as a modern portrayal of women’s leadership in many fields like as industry and technology.
At the center, Koraput coffee represented sustainable lifestyles and agricultural achievement, while a silicon semiconductor chip represented Odisha’s advancements in modern technology. The Mukhyamantri Kamadhenu Yojana, which intended to achieve milk self-sufficiency, was represented by a Dokra-crafted bull. An idol of Lord Ganesha exemplified Odisha’s stone carving prowess, while a replica of the Konark Sun Temple in the back represented the state’s everlasting architectural and cultural tradition.
Live demonstrations by artists on the tableau deck included stone carving, Sabai grass handicrafts, and Pipili applique work.
The tableau was elaborately ornamented with Sambalpuri fabrics, Pattachitra art, traditional tribal paintings, silver filigree work, and Manabasa Gurubar folk paintings, all of which reflected Odisha’s vivid cultural identity. Cultural performances of the Odia traditional dance Chaiti Ghoda, which dates back to the 16th century, contributed energy and demonstrated Odisha’s role in building a self-sufficient India.
It is worth noting that Odisha’s tableau took first prize nationwide in 2024 for its subject of women’s empowerment via handicrafts and handlooms. Additionally, the state’s 2025 tableau on handloom and weaving traditions was chosen for the ‘Dekho Apna Desh’ event during Bharat Parv, which was held from January 26 to 31 near the Red Fort.
