Dr. Mukesh Mahaling, Health and Family Welfare Minister, announced on Monday that the state government will implement the Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri – Jan Arogya Yojana and Gopabandhu Jan Arogya Yojana (GJAY) in February 2025.
“The government will make a big announcement in the new year. Around 3.5 crore people in Odisha will get individual health cards in Odisha and no one will be deprived of health insurance schemes. A Central team has completed the survey for implementing Ayushman Bharat Yojana in the state, Dr Mahaling said.
He added that the state government is also committed to increase the number of medical and nursing colleges in the state in the next year.
An MoU will be signed to implement the Ayushman Bharat Yojana alongside the state-sponsored healthcare system Gopabandhu Jan Arogya Yojana, which would give free healthcare services to economically needy households. Individual health cards will be distributed to around 3.50 crore beneficiaries, allowing them to get free medical treatment at 27,000 empanelled institutions across the country under the public healthcare insurance plan.
Beneficiaries of the Ayushman Bharat Yojana can receive healthcare services at hospitals worth up to Rs 5 lakh, whereas those covered by the Gopabandhu Jan Arogya Yojana (GJAY), which replaced the previous BJD government’s flagship Biju Swasthya Kalyan Yojana (BSKY), can receive healthcare services worth up to Rs 5 lakh in rural areas and up to Rs 6 lakh in urban areas.
