Bhubaneswar: The candidates of the Biju Janata Dal (BJD), Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), and Congress under Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) jurisdiction have started their campaigning in full swing.
The candidates are reaching out to the people asking for votes ahead of Odisha Urban Elections.
Some candidates are going to the park in the morning asking for votes, while others are going to different markets for the same where the crowd is in large number usually.
Earlier on Thursday, Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) had published a list of valid candidatures for urban polls. Among the 12 candidates who had filed nominations for Mayor posts all were found to be valid. However for the post of 67 Ward Corporators, 343 nominations were filed, only one candidature was rejected.
As many as 67 corporator posts there are presently 342 eligible candidates.
For the first time, the three municipal corporations of Odisha will go for direct election for the post of mayor along with the chairperson of 106 municipalities and NACs.
This time, the government has reserved the mayor chair in Bhubaneswar and Berhampur for women while the post in CMC has been kept unreserved. The election will be held on March 24 and the results will be out on March 26.
