The India Meteorological Department has issued a forecast expecting heavy rain in several parts of Odisha during the next 48 hours, attributable to cyclonic circulation over southern Bangladesh and adjoining areas.
This weather system is likely to provide significant precipitation, particularly to Odisha’s north and coastal parts.
Heavy rains are expected on Wednesday and Thursday, with isolated locations potentially receiving exceptionally high rainfall. Thunderstorms with lightning and gusty gusts reaching speeds of 30-35 kmph are also expected.
Also, a thunderstorm alert has been issued for 20 districts in Odisha today and tomorrow, including Balasore, Bhadrak, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khordha, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Subarnapur, Boudh, Kandhamal, Nabarangapur, Rayagada, Koraput, and Malkangiri.
The regional weather office has issued a yellow warning for these districts until Thursday. Residents are advised to take necessary precautions and stay alert.
Furthermore, the IMD has recommended fishermen and residents in low-lying areas to avoid entering the sea or flooded areas due to the anticipated bad weather conditions.
Titlagarh had the most rainfall, totaling 39.0 mm. Bhubaneswar followed closely with 37.4 mm of rain. Other locations that experienced significant rainfall included Nabarangapur (23.0 mm) and Balangir (22.2 mm). Khordha received 12.0 mm of rain, with Chhatrapur and Balasore receiving 10.6 mm apiece.
