During the previous six hours, the deep depression over the northwest Bay of Bengal traveled north-northeastwards at a speed of 20 kmph and strengthened into cyclonic storm “Midhili” (pronounced “Midhili”). It was centered near latitude 20.1°N and longitude 88.5°E at 0530 hours IST on Friday, about 190 km east of Paradip (Odisha), 200 km south-southeast of Digha (West Bengal), and 220 km southwest of Khepupara (Bangladesh), according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).
It is expected to continue moving north-northeastwards and cross Bangladesh’s coast near Khepupara on Saturday night and early Sunday with winds of 60-70 kmph gusting to 80 kmph.
Under the influence of this cyclonic storm, there will be light to moderate rain at one or two places in several districts of the state including Balasore, Bhadrak, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, and Jajpur.
