The regional office of the India Meteorological Department (IMD) in Bhubaneswar has issued an orange signal for severe to very heavy rainfall in many Odisha districts on August 24 and 25. At the same time, the meteorological service predicts that numerous Odisha districts would see severe rain during the next five days.
According to the IMD, a low-pressure system is now active in south Bangladesh and the surrounding region. As it advances north, it will intensify and approach West Bengal during the following 48 hours. While the monsoon is active over the state, cyclonic circulation may provide heavy rain in various portions of the state over the next two days.
Another cyclonic circulation is expected to take place in the North Bay of Bengal on August 24.
Light to moderate rain is expected over Odisha on Thursday, including districts such as Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, and Malkangiri. In light of this, the weather service has issued a yellow advisory for these districts. Meanwhile, the Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) has urged District Magistrates in all districts of the state to remain alert in light of the IMD’s orange warning. In addition, the District Collectors of the state’s six coastal districts have been urged to comply with the warnings issued to fishermen.
