Several locations in Odisha are expected to receive heavy to very heavy rainfall beginning Wednesday as a result of a cyclonic circulation over the northwest Bay of Bengal and adjacent coastal Odisha, which is expected to result in the creation of a low-pressure system today.
According to the India Meteorological Department, a low-pressure region is expected to form over the northwest Bay of Bengal during the next 24 hours, causing heavy to very severe rainfall in numerous portions of Odisha over the next four to five days.
During the next 24 hours, heavy rain (7 to 11cm) is expected in Malkangiri, Koraput, Nabarangpur, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Nuapada, Nayagarh, Khordha, Puri, Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, Dhenkanal, and Angul. A yellow alert has been issued for these districts.
Meanwhile, several villages in Malkangiri district have been flooded as a result of the region’s relentless downpours during the last 24 hours, affecting road transport. The city received 183.2 mm of rain in the last 24 hours, up to 8:30 a.m. on Wednesday.
Meanwhile, the Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) has notified all district Collectors in the state and instructed them to keep a close eye on any changes that may occur as a result of heavy rain in various regions of the state.
