The India Meteorological Department (IMD) warned today that heavy to very heavy rain is expected to fall in numerous parts of Odisha on Thursday as a low-pressure region forms over the west-central and northwest Bay of Bengal.
Today, the meteorological office issued a yellow warning for heavy rain, thundershowers, and lightning in five Odisha districts: Balasore, Bhadrak, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, and Sundargarh. Furthermore, the twin districts of Cuttack and Bhubaneswar are anticipated to receive moderate to severe rainfall.
Dr Sharat Chandra Sahu, weather scientist, predicts that the state will experience partially overcast weather during the next two days. The wet spell is expected to last until Friday, when coastal Odisha and north and south interior Odisha will have rain with thunder and lightning, he said, adding that the amount of rain will progressively reduce beginning Friday.
During the current monsoon season, Odisha received 7% less rainfall than usual. While 21 districts experienced normal rainfall, only Malkangiri received above-average rainfall. Eight districts had inadequate rainfall, ranging from 19 to 59%.
