A low-pressure area has formed over the Northwest Bay of Bengal as of 0530 hrs IST today, September 2, 2025, due to the influence of an upper air cyclonic circulation over northeast Bay of Bengal and adjoining Myanmar coast.
The regional India Meteorological Department predicts that during the course of the next day, this system would become more noticeable over the same area.
The low-pressure region is expected to move west-northwest across Odisha during the next 24 hours, which might bring thunderstorm activity and heavy to very heavy rainfall to different districts, according to the most recent meteorological update.
In the meantime, the weather service has warned of heavy to extremely heavy rains in the districts of Koraput and Malkangiri today. Similarly, there is a good chance that districts like Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Rayagada, Gajapati, Nabarangapur, and Nuapada would see a lot of rain today.
According to the weather forecast, fishermen are advised against going out to sea between September 2 and September 4 because of the choppy seas. It is recommended that residents in the impacted districts remain vigilant, refrain from needless travel, and take the appropriate safety measures against potential weather-related delays.
